CAT#52 - FEDAC Manresa - Participation in the Masterclass with Agnieszka Holland

Participation in the Master Class with Agnieszka Holland

Today, the 2nd of December, our students have taken part in a Masterclass with film Director Agnieszka Holland. The students had previously watched her 1990 movie “Europa Europa” and today they have been able to ask some questions to the director.

The event has been organised by the European Film Factory, which is a European project, supported by the MEDIA sub-programme of Creative Europe, and lead by the Institut Français in partnership with ARTE Education & European Schoolnet.

Our students have had 10 minutes to speak to Mrs Holland, and have been able to ask 3 questions. She has been very through answering, and has given a good amount of details and anecdotes about the film and the film making process.

We are very grateful to have had this opportunity.

The students from Gdansk, Annonay and Bernalda also attended the Master Class through a youtube link provided by the European Film Factory to follow the event live. We are very proud of the selection of Fedac Manresa to represent the E-STAFF for this event. Link to the masterclass here.

CAT#50 - FEDAC Manresa behind the scenes Report - We have recoreded our second Short Film!

We have recoreded our second Short Film!

We have finally been able to record our second short film. It has been difficult with the pandemic because the lockdown started when we were about to record last March.

Since then we have had to change a lot the original story. We had to reduce the number of characters and therefore we had to change the script and the storyboard considerably.

We are now glad to say that we have finally recorded the film.

Now we have all the editing to do!!!

In FEDAC Manresa we are preparing to record our second Erasmus Plus film. It has been really hard with the restrictions imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic. We had to make a lot of changes to the original idea. Finally, these last few days we started rehearsing.

We had to reduce the number of actors and some aspects of the original script. We hope that the filming will be successful.

FRA#36 - Erasmus Days - E-STAFF special evening

On October 14-16th, we celebrated the Erasmus Days all across Europe. In Les Perrières Secondary School, we made a special Erasmus Days evening to close the second year of the project, which we couldn't do in June because of the Covid-19 pandemic. We invited the students, parents, local officials and local media. If the ceremony of the first year took place in the Castle of Deomas, this year we could use our brand new reception room !

During the evening, the students presented E-STAFF to the public and gave their personal impressions about the project. After that, we screened a video recap of the last two years :

We also screened the video reports that were produced by the students during the second year, with a particular focus on journalist Eric Valmir (who had come to our school exactly one year before) and filmmaker Guillaume Laurant.

And of course, we watched the two short films that were made, with French subtitles : A Journey to Save the City (year 1) and The Meeting of Shadows (year 2), as an official premiere, followed by the behind-the-scenes report :

There was also a graduation ceremony, during which the coordinator of the project and the School Principal awarded specific grades to the E-STAFF students, indicating their progress through the eight modules of the project.

We finished this beautiful evening with announcements about our new partnership with the European Film Factory and about the future of the project, that still lives on until February 2021...!

CAT#48 - Premier of our movie "The Light" for the entire school for ERASMUS DAY 2020

Today, 15th of October 2020 in FEDAC Manresa, we have celebrated Erasmus Day with the Premiere of our first E-STAFF movie for the whole school. We had initially programed a big premiere celebration and party last April. However, it was all cancelled due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Students and teachers taking part in the E-STAFF project thought that the Erasmus Day would be the perfect opportunity to finally share our first movie with the entire learning community of our school.

4 Students have presented the project and the film to the rest of the school in an online meeting with all classes. After that, all classes have simultaneously watched our movie “The Light” featuring the most famous legend associated to the town of Manresa.

All students have enjoyed the film and have commented on the great quality of this Erasmus Plus final project result.

We had previously announced the event on social media and today we have also posted pictures of the event.

PL#31 Shooting the second project film - part 2

Shooting the second project film - part 2

Our second project film is set in Gdańsk Solidarity Centre but also in Oliwa Park and on one of the Gdańsk beaches. During the shooting day we were lucky to have really good weather. That is why, not only did we work hard but also we enjoyed the time together. We watched the sqirrels running on the greens in this English type park surrounding Oliwa Abby.
Have a look at the backstage film. You will see the concentration as well as  a great pleasure of working together.

PL#30 Shooting the second project film - part 1

Shooting the second project film - part 1

We organized the first part of the shooting  of our second project film titled "The Investigation". This part is set in Solidarity Centre in Gdańsk. Unfortunately, we could not talk to people responsible for the work of this centre. We did not get a permission to do it because of covid-19 problems. We got, however, the permission to shoot our film there. We shot scenes outside the centre, in the main hall as well as on the tarrace.
Maja Rosińsk made a backstage film.
Have a look!

PL#29 The First Rehearsal of the Second Project Film

The REHEARSAL We have all experienced a difficult time of coronavirus. But we are trying hard to do what we can to follow our dreams. Last autumn and winter we did so much to make our second film. We made up the plot, drew the storyboard...We even organized a professional audition and that way the cast was formed. However, we were unlucky enough not to have time to shoot the film. We came back to school on the first of September and we started our work again. With all the restrictions we go on. Slowly and cautiously. We had the first rehearsal after the lockdown. Here is the backstage film shot and edited by Maja Rosińska, a student from our school. Enjoy watching!

Dear friends

here we are .We are the new students  involved in the last part of the project E staff because the previous students are attending a new school. We had different lessons about cinema just like the other ones.We worked with some experts about a shortfilm called "green bike " that  is about environment. It was presented at LUCANIA FILM FESTIVAL last September. We were and still are  involved in other two film festivals just like GIFFONI FILM FESTIVAL and GIOVANI IN CORTO NELLA TERRA DI PITAGORA.We use our laptops and mobile phones a lot.We watch a lot of films because we are fond of cinema and we are attending the last year of middle school (year 8). We are very happy to join this project .Our magic word is "creativity. By the way, we wrote the new script about the second year shortfilm called "A bleached out dream" and we are finishing to edit it .Our shortfilm is an Experimental shortfilm because during this period of pandemic we decided to test this new form of cinema.

FRA#34 - Shooting the second film - video report and cultural heritage

After the reopening of the schools in France, we decided to shoot our second film in anticipation of the E-STAFF. It is now fully shot and 80% edited  - we still need to add the music and the sound effects.

As usual, a team of E-STAFF students made a report around the film and edited it right after the shooting. The reporters present the cultural heritage of the film, which is set in the house of Le Colombier in Annonay. This house is the birth place of a very famous French family of inventors, the Seguins, which was very important during the Industrial Revolution in Europe. The report also features an interview of the actual owner of the house and a brief presentation of the novels of Raoul de Warren, a member of the Seguin family, who loosely inspired the scenario.

Enjoy watching !

FRA#32 - Project delayed and teleworking resources

Due to the situation of confinement in the European Union, and with the support of the Erasmus+ National Agency, we shall momentarily suspend the mobility process of the E-STAFF project, as well as all the film-making activities. The E-STAFF, which was to take place in the European Parliament Strasbourg at the end of May, is delayed to this Autumn.

In the meantime, we are organizing teleworking with all our students. Here are some resources and hints in that purpose :

1. How to make a proper film review at home : download the worksheet we used during the cinema festivals. The students can watch a film of their choice and write its review using this document.

Remember: don't spoil the film in your review, concentrate your summary on the beginning of the film! Also, be careful to make the difference between what is a good actor and what is a good character. You may read examples of other students' film reviews here.

2) In addition to the previous document, on the image below, you can see how to connect the five film categories of the E-STAFF (Best Film, Best story, Filmmaking, Acting and Cultural Heritage) to the various cinema vocabulary and skills we studied in class, during the cinema festivals and during the whole filmmaking process. Students can use this image to compare different films or film extracts they watched, make a ranking of those films and justify this ranking.

3) Students can also watch a good youtube channel about cinema history and/or criticism. Here is Le Fossoyeur de Films (in French) but there are many others...! Example with "La Peur au Cinéma" (Fear in Cinema) which evokes, for instance, German expressionist cinema - but not only - with a lot of humor, explaining lots of cinema notions and techniques :

4) They can finally shoot a report about their life in confinement, speak of their daily routine, to share with their friends and develop their editing skills... For those who don't have an editing software, it is possible to edit videos online with Adobe Spark. But there is also open-source and free software on the internet.

PL#28 Remembering Film Festival in Annonay

Remembering Film Festival in Annonay

The Annonay Film Festival was an unforgettable experience for all the students participating.
It was time for broadening the film analysis knowledge as well as upgrading the editing skills. Students watched masterpieces of cinematography, discussed them, shot reviews and, above all, lived with French families - their families at that time!!!

Here is a short film report on the meeting.

Here are the students' memories from the time they spent with wonderful French families:

The second film makings are in progress.

We have already made up our minds about the plot of the film. We have also written the script and chosen the cast, which is really great.

We are in the middle of the storyboarding, which takes its time. But we are doing well although we are still facing a lot of hard work.

PL#26 Our first rehearsal for the second film

Our first rehearsal for the second film

Our E-STAFF team started excellently the first day at school in the new year.  Students tried their lines being watched and heard by English teachers Mrs Iwona Cieplińska, Mrs Kamila Budych and Mrs Beata Pastuszko. Voiced and unvoiced consonants have been tamed. Stress has been put where it should be. This Winter Break is going to be WONDERFUL with the lines to be learnt by heart always on our minds!

Here is a video report of our work which was more fun than work, in fact:)

CAT#42– Working on the Storyboard of our second E-STAFF movie– FEDAC Manresa Behind The Scenes Report

CAT#42– Working on the Storyboard of our second E-STAFF movie– FEDAC Manresa Behind The Scenes Report

Students in FEDAC Manresa are working on the storyboard of the chosen script for our second movie. Students are detailing, for each scene, the number of shots, and for each shot the angle and camera movement. They also include the required prompts used in the scene and notes about the actors’ performance.

This is a very thorough work and will go on for a couple more weeks.

Students work in groups collaboratively and sharing roles and responsibilities to achieve the learning goal.
